Fair Ground > Galeria

..:: Galeria ::..

The Galeria - the backbone of the fair: It connects the new west wing of MESSE ESSEN with the existing halls and, as a logistics axis through the complex, it not only optimises the stand erection and dismantling traffic but also provides space for multifunctional uses and more quality of movement for the visitors during the actual fairs.

In conjunction with the fair hall 3, the Galeria creates the optimum conditions for top-quality events in a unique atmosphere. It is the ideal platform for extraordinary and traditional events with a large experience character, e.g. product presentations, high-class events, conferences, exhibitor evenings

One particularly remarkable detail: The transparent roof of the Galeria is a "solar power station". It consists of over 700 solar modules with roughly 114,000 cells which generate roughly 170,000 kWh of energy per year.

Here, you can also look forward to seeing Europe's largest work of glass art, the glass picture "Energie" by Prof. Jörg Immendorff. You obtain a view and further information here.

The first construction phase of the Galeria was already open for the Essen Motor Show in December 2000.The 2nd construction phase of the Galeria will be opened to the public for the first time on 12 September 2005 for Schweissen & Schneiden. As a result, the already existing 1st construction phase of the building will be extendes by 140 m to a total of 250 m in length.

The concept of the Galeria is a major element in the master plan to expand Messe Essen with which Mario Bellini won the international competition in 1997. The Milan star architect aleady planned at that time to extend the Galeria in a 2nd construction phase as the central backbone of the fair complex and therefore also give the existing hall ensamble a structure. In January 2004 the Supervisory Board of Messe Essen passed a resolution to implement the 2nd construction phase of the Galeria. Marion Bellini's "uncompleted work" is now being completed.

Technical data 1st and 2nd construction phase:
Length: 250 m
Width: 19 m
Height: 16.50 m
Area: 4.750 sqm
Net area: 1.800 sqm
